When I first published my book Harlem Son I was often asked, "so why did you write this book?" My answer was always, I wrote the book to have a family legacy and to also leave no room for rumor and innuendo. Yes I care about what people say about me. I also wrote the book to talk about the Harlem of my youth. I needed to talk about my dad and talk about my mom's sickness. I tried to develop a coming of age story so that young men can see what the use of drugs can do and how to work their way through it. I wanted to talk about my relationship with women and s*x. I also added historical references I thought were interesting. Stories about sports, music, and radio are sprinkled throughout the book. The book comes to a close with stories about my life in mediation and the World Trade Center on Sept. 11th, 2001. I am presently on a book tour. July 10th and 11th, NAACP-Author Pavilion at the Kansas City Convention Center, Kansas City, MO; July 19th, Harlem Book Fair; Sept. 25th, Baltimore Book Festival. I hope to see you at one of these events. Check me out on facebook,
