On behalf of Virginia State University’s Department of Student Activities, we would like to invite you to our home on the lofty hill, high above the Appomattox River. We would also like to extend the opportunity to build and maintain a vital relationship with Virginia State University and its campus where students can Dream, Explore and Succeed.
Located in the beautiful city of historic Petersburg, Virginia State University Homecoming celebration is truly a highlight and notable event in the Tri-cities area. Records indicate that this most prestigious tradition started in the 1930’s, welcoming our alumni back to the university as “Home-comers,” bringing good fortune to the game. Over the years this tradition has grown and is a capstone in the college experience for students and alumni. It attracts over 30,000 guests and the numbers rise each year. As the only Historically Black Land Grant University in Virginia, Trojans take pride in the history and success of Virginia State University.
Homecoming celebration is a culmination of various activities for Trojans to come together and celebrate university spirit and culture. Each year of success is owed to the students, alumni, faculty/staff and the surrounding community of the University. This year’s activities include the Gospel Concert featuring Earnest Pugh and the world renowned Virginia State University Gospel Choral, Comedy Show featuring DeRay Davis, R&B/Hip-hop Concert featuring Travis Porter and Meek Mills, Parade, Pep Rally and Vendor Bazaar to just name a few. Each event draws large crowds not only from the University, but people all over the country. Virginia State University Homecoming is a nationally recognized event bringing in a mass amount of people and organizations.
